The Road to Caen
These images are form a body of work entitled ‘The Road to Caen’, a series of photographs documenting the route that British troops took from the beaches of Normandy towards Caen, in France, 1944. I used contemporary ‘Top Secret’ maps to retrace the route taken by elements of the Allied forces that landed on the beach at Ouistreham, codename ‘Sword’, to the City of Caen, which was later to be utterly destroyed in the fighting.
